Maza - Houston: Reviews & Ratings
The best food I've ever tasted in my life. They have delicious biryani. I haven't tasted anything like it since I left Pakistan. If you're looking for authentic Pakistani taste then come here, I highly recommend you visit this place.
It was my first time trying this place and it was amazing. I ordered Togo and unfortunately I was missing my samosas, because they were still cooking. They went above and beyond to make sure I got to try them, and they delivered them to me personally. The food was seasoned great and the rice was so soft. I can't wait to order again and try more.
This hidden gem of a Pakistani restaurant is just 5 minutes from IAH. We had an international layover for Hajj and stayed at a nearby hotel, within walking distance of this spot. While the ambiance is simple, the food is as close to home-cooked as it gets. With a 24-hour layover, we came here for dinner and returned the next day for lunch before our flight — it was that good. The couple who runs the place are incredibly humble and welcoming. Even as they were closing for the night, they kindly fired up the grill just for us. The naan, made fresh in a tandoor, was some of the best we’ve had — especially hot out of the oven. The beef seekh kebabs were perfectly cooked, as was the flavorful smash burger. The rice dishes were equally satisfying, and the chai was spot on. We typically fly out of Hobby, where there are plenty of dining options, but we’re so glad we discovered this treasure on Houston’s north side.
The food was OK. I added a generous amount of salt to improve the seasoning. I was warned that the curry might be spicy, however, the curry tasted washed out and bland. I was hoping for something a little bit more adventurous in flavor and textures. The naan was dried out and not particularly flavorful. Otherwise, the food was decent. If you’re looking for a curry, that is OK in flavor and yet can be improved with some salt, this is the place for you. The ambience was also OK. It was a large square room that became very noisy after only a few tables arrived. The process form ordering is, walk in the door and walk up to the cash and say what it is you want to eat. The worn out menus in front of the till are text only and not completely accurate. There are no photos or descriptions available to know what you’re going to get with your meal. The gentleman who took my order, was very pleasant and quite helpful. When I paid with my credit card, it prompted me for a tip. I am always confused at being asked for a tip for service that is not provided. What service am I tipping for exactly? Nevertheless, I did tip (15%) anticipating I would receive more service than I did. My plate of curry over rice arrived, with a small basket of naan, and raita on the side in a plastic dipping tray. The portion was a little on the small side and left me hungry at the end of the meal. Prior to eating, I needed to stand up and fetch my own cutlery and paper napkins. At the end of the meal, you’re expected to bus your own table and bring your plate over to the collection point. If you are looking for a delicious curry experience you might want to keep looking. If you are just hungry, this place will be ok.
For someone staying in JF Kennedy Boulevard, this place can be a good economical option. I was there for 3 weeks and was eating here for most of the time . There Palak Paneer is really nice

Maza - Houston stands out as a genuine Pakistani culinary destination nestled on John F Kennedy Blvd, offering a vibrant taste of South Asia right in the heart of Houston. This unpretentious eatery is celebrated for its authentic flavor profile, bringing traditional dishes to life with fresh, bold spices and home-style cooking methods.
The restaurant’s chicken biryani is a definitive highlight—aromatic, richly spiced, and layered with tender chicken that melts in your mouth. It evokes the comfort and depth of classic Pakistani cuisine, often praised by patrons longing for a genuine taste reminiscent of their homeland. Alongside biryani, the Maza Grill Platter commands attention, presenting an array of perfectly grilled meats, including juicy chicken tikka boti and smoky beef seekh kababs, each component carefully marinated and char-grilled to perfection.
The savory chicken selection extends the experience, with dishes like the lamb or goat curry served over fragrant rice standing out for their complex, slow-cooked flavors. This depth is complemented by lighter bites such as crispy samosas and the uniquely appealing Nutella naan, which adds a sweet twist to the traditional bread. A sip of their hot cardamom tea or Karak Chai perfectly rounds off the meal, balancing the robust spices with warm, fragrant notes.
What sets Maza apart is its unassuming nature and dedication to authenticity, which resonates strongly with diners seeking comfort food with genuine roots. The couple running the restaurant exude warmth and humility, going the extra mile to ensure satisfaction—be it staying late to fire up the grill or personally delivering missing samosas to a table. Despite a modest, bustling atmosphere and a simple ordering process that requires some self-service, the quality of food consistently wins over those who appreciate true Pakistani flavors.
While some expect a polished dining experience or a more refined ambiance, Maza’s charm lies in its honest approach to Pakistani home cooking. The dishes carry a rustic authenticity that may not aim for perfection in plating but triumphs in taste and heartfelt preparation. For those craving robust curries, tender grilled meats, and richly spiced rice, Maza - Houston offers an economical and satisfying choice that captures the essence of Pakistani cuisine within easy reach of the city’s north side.
